March Fishing Report – Spring Break is Here!

March means spring break fishing, and the action is starting to heat up. If daytime temperatures continue holding in the 70s, our coastal waters will warm quickly — bringing Spanish mackerel and possibly even king mackerel closer to shore. King mackerel typically become more common in April, but we’re watching closely for early arrivals.

These fast-moving fish are the primary targets on our 4-hour trolling trips, which are a great option for families to enjoy time on the water, view coastal wildlife, and fish close to shore.

For anglers wanting to fill the cooler, our 6-hour and 8-hour trips are the most productive this time of year. We head farther offshore, trolling along the way before bottom fishing the artificial reefs. Expect excellent opportunities to keep:

  • Vermilion snapper
  • Black snapper
  • Lane snapper
  • Triggerfish

Other keeper species are often available depending on seasonal regulations.

Currently, amberjack, red snapper, and gag grouper are closed until later in the year — but there are still plenty of great fish to target and take home.

Spring fishing is ramping up fast, and now is a great time to get on the water!
