Deep drop fishing off of Orange Beach Alabama is a type of fishing is depths of 400 feet to well over 1,000 feet deep. We use power assisted reels made by Daiwa. These fishing reels are light weight but yet strong enough to reel up a big fish. We suggest using the manual reel until you get the fish hooked and coming up. You may then flip the lever and let the electric reel do the rest. Our deep drop fishing tackle is different from what is used by many other fishermen. Our light weight rod and reels allow you to feel the bite and handle the tackle. We also provide larger rod and reels the same as many other fishermen use. With this method we place two bent butt rods in rod holders and you just push the button. You never handle these rod and reels.
We have specialized slow-pitch jigging rods and reels that we allow customers to use when the conditions are suitable for it. This technique of fishing is very hands on and thrilling when a fish strikes! Our deckhands will be there to assist in coaching the technique needed for slow-pitch jigging if the angler is not experienced.
There is a variety fish found in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. My favorite fish to catch are the deep water grouper. Snowy grouper and yellowedge grouper are some of the best tasting fish you will catch. These fish usually range from about 8 pounds to well over 30 pounds. The longtail sea bass is a smaller but beautiful fish and also tastes delicious. Golden tilefish are found in waters from 600 feet to over 1,000 feet. Some people compare the taste to succulent lobster. You can judge the taste yourself. The blueline tilefish is found in waters around 400 to 500 feet. There are many species of fish that you may catch, some might never have been seen before, as you enjoy deep drop fishing off Orange Beach, Alabama.
